Mr. DeVries grew up in Randolph, Wisconsin and attended Central Wisconsin Christian High in Waupun. He went on to college, graduating from Dordt College in 1989 and began teaching the 1989/1990 school year at Mount Vernon Christian School, in the state of Washington. He taught for six years there and then moved to Michigan. In Michigan he took up teaching at Adams Christian School in Wyoming, (formerly Grand Rapids). He taught there for two years at both the third grade and fifth grade levels.

Mr. DeVries started teaching at Covenant Christian in the 1997/1998 school year and teaches Modern World History, Non-Christian Religions, and World Geography.

Mr. DeVries is also the Assistant Principal and Technology Director.

Mr. DeVries is married, and he and his wife Marianne have four children, Derrick, Caitlyn, Megan, and Claire. Mr. DeVries and his family attend Grace Protestant Reformed Church in Standale Michigan.
